Important Dates in SUMC History

• 1888 Asbury Meth. Building moved from E. 16th & Capitol to E. 32nd & Walnut

• 1888-0ctober 1901 St. Walnut Methodist Church

• 1890 Name changed to Simpson

• November 1901 Moved to E. 26th & Capitol, was too close to the Fairgrounds

• August 1914 Building enlarged

• 1915 & 1916 Restaurant at the fair-raised $3000 to pay off church debts

• Parsonage built summer 1921 (where? Assume on lot North of church). The cost was $4000, funds raised from restaurant at fair

• 1959 Parsonage moved to lot 2543 Capitol, Lot bought for $1

• December 1958

• ED Wing completed May 1962

• Old Church torn down 1968 - new building opened November 1970

• 1984 Vestibule addition--West Door

• January 1970 $120,00 mortgage due 7/1/1981

• Articles of incorporation 1938 4/27/1938

• S.M.EP. Church to SUMC 3/1/1970
